From Numbers to Notoriety: Showcasing Campaign Success to Boost Your Team’s Profile

As a video producer, writer, and marketer, I’ve had the privilege of working on some truly exceptional projects. Recently, I completed a video social media campaign that was nothing short of amazing. The subject was something I really believed in; the team was energetic and passionate; the shoots were complex in the best way, and the results exceeded expectations. 685M impressions on TikTok in the first week and a 200% increase in program participation from the previous year. These are numbers to be proud of, especially for a medium-budget campaign aimed at a very targeted audience. It was one of those rare projects where everything just clicked.
As an external consultant, my job isn’t just to do great work; it’s to make the marketing managers I work with look great. My role is to make their lives easier and show that they’ve made efficient, cost-effective choices while maintaining high-level creativity and brand presence. There’s nothing better than hearing the team got a huge pat on the back or, even better, a nice budget increase. That’s the ultimate reward because it significantly increases the chances of working with the same team again.
But as marketing teams shrink and workloads grow, taking the time to collect and evaluate results can feel like a luxury. For marketing managers, the last few days of a project are already filled with busy work—filing releases with legal, uploading finished files to the right servers, routing invoices, etc. While this diligence is important, data collection and horn-tooting must be seen as just as important. Not only does it elevate the profile of the marketing team and its value, it demonstrates your contributions in a meaningful way. So don’t be afraid to shout those good numbers from the mountaintop.
Here are three ways that I've seen marketing managers successfully prioritize messaging their team's accomplishments to increase their profile (and budgets).
1. Make sure everyone on the team cares about results.
This might seem obvious, but it’s surprising how often it’s overlooked. When you outsource video production, it's crucial to ensure that your external partners are as invested in the results as your internal team. By encouraging both your team and your vendors to request and review results data, you foster a culture that cares about the end results, not just getting the project done. When everyone involved is invested in the outcomes, they’re more likely to take ownership and pride in their work. This ensures that both your team and your external partners are aware of the impact of their efforts and connects everyone’s names with successful outcomes.
2. Focus on the data that matters most.
The challenge with data collection is that so much data is available. If I had a nickel for every time I saw data collected on a campaign that just left everyone scratching their head, well... I'd have a lot of them. There are three universal data points that everyone will care about:
How many people your campaign reached (view count)
How many people your campaign convinced (conversion rate)
Your cost-to-profit ratio (ROI)
3. Connect directly with executives.
Even if you haven’t worked directly with the executive team on a project, find out who they are and reach out. Send them a simple note highlighting your team's skills and accomplishments and share the numbers with them. They likely know the campaign was successful but may not know who was responsible. You might hear back, or you might not. Either way, it casts your team positively and ties their names to the success.
As one of my greatest and wisest bosses once said, “When you do something right, slap on a frilly hat and dance on the conference table.”
